Backup/Restore Beat Saber Data

We all work hard for the progress and scores we’ve made in Beat Saber – and being able to back those up and preserve them between installations, BMBF updates and factory resets is important.

I don’t recommend using SideQuest’s “backup/restore” (which many people do) for the simple reason that we only need a few files – and a full backup/restore could cause Beat Saber to no longer work. It is safer to perform these backup operations in controlled, only-what-you-need manner.

Overview

Beat Saber saves all its data in a few files, stored in the accessible file system of the Quest’s Android file system. This makes it pretty easy to get to for the purposes of backing up and restoring.

This will backup all song scores, Beat Saber configurations, game progress and more.

You should consider doing this process before you Uninstall Beat Saber Manually and as a precaution when Installing BMBF.

This tutorial will be using SideQuest to access the files necessary. We will not cover the setup of SideQuest here. Please view the amazing tutorial on the official site. Once you have it up and running, return to this tutorial.

You should always make sure Beat Saber is not running on your Quest when performing backup/restore operations.

You can be sure it is closed by using SideQuest to force close it. Go to Apps, find Beat Saber, click the gear, select FORCE CLOSE APP.

You could use the opportunity to do a nice power cycle on your Quest and be sure nothing is running, also.

Important Note

If you are moving from a very old version of Beat Saber (more than a couple versions behind), it is worth noting that the save/data file configurations could have changed. This means even if you perform this backup/restore, you may lose data.

Backup Beat Saber Data
  • Connect your Quest to your PC and open SideQuest.
  • Click the folder icon to manage files on the headset.
  • Navigate to sdcard->Android->data->com.beatgames.beatsaber->files
  • For each .dat file you see, click the disk icon. Do not do this for .dat.bak files. These are not needed.
  • When you click the disk icon each time, you’ll have the opportunity to set the location where you want to save the file. If you’re okay with the Current Location shown, simply hit SAVE TO PC. Otherwise, click SELECT LOCATION and make your change (this setting sticks for future saves).
  • Each save should result in a green status indicator on the bottom of the SideQuest window.
  • Once you have saved all the .dat files, you are done.
  • You can now exit SideQuest and rest assured that your data is safe!
Restoring Beat Saber Data

Before you restore a previously backed up set of Beat Saber .dat files, you may want to create a backup of the existing ones; just in case. Follow the guide above to safely backup you existing files.

  • Open your file manager to where the save files are that you wish to restore.
  • Connect your Quest to your PC and open SideQuest.
  • Click the folder icon to manage files on the headset.
  • Navigate to sdcard->Android->data->com.beatgames.beatsaber->files
  • For each .dat file you have in your backup, drag them to the SideQuest logo in the upper left.
  • Each drag and drop should result in a green status indicator on the bottom of the SideQuest window.
  • Once you have performed this for all your .dat files, you are done.
  • Launch Beat Saber and verify your data has been restored.
