Backup / Restore Custom Songs Manually

At Beat Saber Quest, we highly recommend using the Bookmark Sync method for ensuring you can always recover your custom songs in the event BMBF drops them, Beast Saber is down or you have tons of custom songs that do not exist on Beast Saber.

Once again: We recommend the Bookmark Sync method above all others in ensuring your custom songs are safe.

Getting Started

SideQuest is required for the manual backing up or restoring of custom songs. You should already have this set up in order to have installed BMBF, but it is a requirement.

Note: This does not backup your playlists. Use my Playlist Editor Pro tool to backup and restore playlist configurations. You should ALWAYS backup your playlist configurations BEFORE doing a backup of your songs.

Note

This process does not backup or restore your playlists. Use my tool Playlist Editor Pro for this.

Backup Custom Songs Manually
  1. Plug your Quest into your PC and run SideQuest.
  2. Select the file folder icon on the toolbar to manage files on the headset.
  1. From the SDCARD listing, select BMBFData.
  1. Find the CustomSong folder and click the disk icon that corresponds to it.
  1. Look at the Current Location. If that isn’t where you want your backup to go, click Select Location and choose a folder you want the CustomSongs folder to be backed up to.
  2. Once you have the right location set, click SAVE TO PC.
  1. You should see a task running by the 1 noted on the top toolbar. Click that box.
  1. Watch the files being backed up. This can take some time – depending on how many songs you have.
  2. Once the job is completed you’ll see a green indicator where the red one was. You are done.
  3. You can open your destination location on your PC and verify the folder is there and it contains song folders.
  1. Again, I implore you to backup your custom playlist configurations using my Playlist Editor Pro tool.
Restoring Custom Songs Manually
  1. Obviously, you need to have taken a backup of your CustomSongs folder prior to attempting a restore. With any luck, you also backed up your custom playlists with my Playlist Editor Pro tool so you can restore your playlists after we’re done here.
  2. Plug your Quest into your PC and run SideQuest.
  3. Select the file folder icon on the toolbar to manage files on the headset.
  1. From the SDCARD listing, select BMBFData.
  1. Locate your CustomFolders folder you backed up earlier and DRAG the whole folder from your file manager to the SideQuest logo in the top left.
  1. You should see a task running by the 1 noted on the top toolbar. Click that box.
  1. Watch the files being restored. This can take some time – depending on how many songs you have in your backup.
  2. Just copying the files over is not enough. You must now use BMBF to read them into your quest.
  3. Follow this guide: Running BMBF. Then return here.

Note

You can do this next part in your headset with BMBF running, or just access your BMBF web server via a PC on your network by opening a browser and using the address https://<yourquestip>:50000.

  1. Open BMBF web interface.
  2. Select Tools.
  3. Click Reload Song Folder.
  1. BMBF will scan your Custom Songs folder.
  2. When complete, you’ll see an indicator that looks like this.
  1. Now click Sync To Beat Saber at the top right.
  1. BMBF will process whatever is left to do to commit your custom songs.
  2. Use Playlist Editor Pro to restore your playlists. See the instructions for that app to learn how to do that.
  3. You’re ready to go! Start up Beat Saber and verify your custom songs are back.
